About Sister Lakes Michigan

We have been on Round Lake in Sister Lakes since 1999.

Sister Lakes is a chain of inland lakes in Southwest Michigan, located in Keeler Township, Van Buren County, with parts of the area extending into Silver Creek Township in Cass County. The name goes back to 1877, when a post office was opened between the two original Sister Lakes, Round Lake and Big Crooked Lake.

Today the Sister Lakes area includes six main lakes. Round Lake, Big Crooked, Little Crooked, Cable, Dewey, and Magician. The broader region covers ten to eleven lakes within a five to six mile radius. It is one of the most concentrated clusters of inland lake watersports activity in Michigan.

The area has been a watersports destination for over a century. Sister Lakes first rose to popularity as a vacation spot for Chicagoans in 1911, when the railroad made nearby Dowagiac accessible by train. Resort owners competed hard for big city visitors and the area built a culture of summer watersports that still defines it today.

Round Lake at a Glance

Round Lake is an all sports lake covering 194 acres with a maximum depth of 27 feet. It sits at an elevation of 763 feet in Keeler Township, Van Buren County. The water is clean, the conditions are calm, and morning sessions are some of the best in Southwest Michigan for wakeboarding, wakesurfing, waterskiing, and wakefoiling. The lake has a state owned boat launch with a gravel ramp and restrooms on the north side off M-152.

Bill Boston grew up on these lakes. He opened The Boarder Line on Round Lake in 1999 because nobody in Sister Lakes was offering real watersports instruction or selling gear that serious riders could trust. Twenty five years later the shop has grown into a full Nautique and Barletta dealership with a structured lesson and camp program, indoor heated storage, and a pro shop stocked with gear the staff actually rides.
